ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY OF MALE SEX ORGANS
What is the role of penis?
It is a mate sexual organ and hangs down loosely infront of scrotum* During sexual excitation it becomes erect "and changes in size and direction. It becomes rigid, tense, enlarged and elevated. Glans of penis is most sensitive part of the organ.
In addition to increased blood flow penis is having great deal of elastic tissue.
Does sexual capability depends on the length of Penis?
No, sexual efficiency does not depends on the length of penis but may be on erection and retention capabilities. Non erect penis measures 3 to 3 1/2 inches. During erection length increases to 6" to 6 1/2 inches with circumference of about 4" in an average. Length depends, on cast, creed and individual variations.
Does size of the penis depends on good physical health?
Not at all. I think size of penis depends on hormonal secretions rather than physique.
What is circumcision?
This is one of the oldest type of operation done in different parts of the world. In it fore skin which covers the penis is removed. In muslims and many other communities it is a ritual.
What is the advantage of circumcision?
Under the foreskin there is generally accumulation of white, pasty material with a typical smell known as smegma. It is procarcinogenic and hence has to be cleaned off & on. Circumcision becomes a desirable hygienic measure.
What is phimosis?
When foreskin remains adherent to glans penis it becomes painful during coitus. In these type of patients circumcision is advised. Circumcision does not. increase sexual desire or capacity in any way.
Before ejecuiation some times a few drops of moisture appears at the tip of penis, what it is?
This is not a part of semen but a fluid which is alkaline and may neutralize any acid of left over urine in urethral passage. Acid medium may harm spermatozoa. The precoital secretion may lubricate vagina too. It is a white, transparent sticky secretion, but on occasion during excitement small quantity of semen may also be ejaculated. Then it will be containing sperms too.
What do you understand by insemination?
Meeting of sperm and egg takes place in female body only. To push the sperm in female organ, physical union of male and female is necessary. Deposition of seminal fluid in female passage as a result of copulation is known as insemination.
What is vaginal insemination?
In certain animals as sheep, giraffe, they possess a mechanism by which the sperms are injected directly into the uterine canal. Male copulatory organ having a thread like appendage which enters the uterus during mating and carries the sperm into its cavity. In human being and other animals the semen is deposited into vaginal canal and from there it ascends the female genital tract, passing through the uterus into the tubes. Seminal fluid when first ejaculated is gelatinous in character and it takes several minutes before it liquifies. Then sperm moves fast to enter the uterus.
How sperms reach the uterus?
Sperm can travel one eighth of an inch per minute i.e. one inch in eight minutes. Generally the distance from the point of ejaculation to the uterus may be only one inch so with in a few minutes sperms can reach to uterus.
During forceful ejaculation a few drops may be pushed just near the womb.
Some of the ejaculated semen is brought in close contact of uterine opening by the copulatory movements.
Contraction of the muscles of the vaginal canal facilitate the entry of the spermatozoa into the cervix.
Why sperms move towards uterus?
The secretions of vagina are acidic while of cervix: are alkaline. Spermatozoa survive in alkaline media hence they move towards uterus. At the time of ejaculation cervical secretion increases in amount too.
Does only one sperm enters the ova?
Yes, when one sperm enters the egg there is biological mechanism which prevents the entry of other sperms into the cell. As soon as one penetrates egg it becomes surrounded by a thickened membrane which acts as a barrier to the entry of other sperm.
When only one sperm is useful then why there are so many sperms in one ejaculation?
Each sperm carries with it a ferment known as hyaluronidase. This ferment prepares the way for sperm to reach the ovum, playing an important role in aiding fertilization.
Hence larger the number of spermatozoa in seminal fluid more enzyme there will be and greater the likelihood of conception.
